A pair of white artificial lungs, installed in Mumbai’s Bandra to create awareness on the city’s high pollution levels and their adverse health effects, have turned grey, and are nearing pitch black just eight days after installation.
The local administration had installed the pair of artificial lungs at Bandra Kurla Complex on Thursday, January 16, 2020. These lungs were made of high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters.
On Tuesday, the air quality index in Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai’s commercial hub, crossed 340. It was closely followed by the stations at Worli, Kurla and Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, which recorded AQIs of 207, 197, and 188 respectively.
